GATE students at Travis Ranch Elementary are clustered within the regular education program with teachers who have been trained in instructional differentiation. Our goal is to provide each student with the opportunity to fully develop his or her abilities and interests while maintaining a sense of class community. The cluster program allows our GATE students to remain at their school site yet pursue content standards at an elevated level. Strategies such as Kaplan's "Depth & Complexity Icons" are used.
For GATE students, teachers may differentiate content, process/strategies, products and/or assessments.
In addition to differentiating within the regular classroom, Travis Ranch offers our elementary GATE students additional enrichment at our after school GATE Academy, which takes place in our middle school classrooms. Students may attend introductory classes in subjects such as Spanish and Art. This gives students a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with the middle school campus and teachers.
Further, GATE Academy students will participate in the creation and construction of paper roller coasters. As a culminating event, students will attend a field trip to Knott’s Berry Farm to experience their Energy and Motion Tour.
