(a) Homework activities will be independent of classroom instructional time, (b) Homework will have value for students, (c) It will be monitored, collected, checked, and returned, (d) Homework will be assigned so that the amount increases as the student progresses through various grades.
Homework For Absentees:
Upon request through the office, teachers will provide homework within 48 hours of receiving request, when a child has been absent for the SECOND consecutive day. A request should be made early in the day to give the teacher time to assemble the materials and to write necessary instruction. Homework can be sent home with another child or picked up after the dismissal hour in the office not later than 24 hours following the request. A student has 1 day per absence to return homework. If a student misses class due to an activity in another class, (field trip, leadership, etc.) assignments are still due on the designated date. There is no extension of time. If the absence is of some duration, homework needs to be returned before the teacher can properly prepare additional assignments.
An Independent Study Contract is possible when you know in advance that your child will be absent from school for 5 days or more. The contract contains the following: The student’s name, the dates of absence, the assigned work for the time the student will be out, the parent’s signature, and the Principal’s signature. This way the student will maintain his/her status in class while absent. You are asked to obtain a contract from the teacher at least three days prior to the absence. To receive credit, the work is due the day the student returns to school.
